I just wanted to let my awesome subscribers know that I have spent the fall academic term at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta teaching Parks Planning, called “Wicked Parks Planning.” Its been a blast. I had the most fourth year and graduate studies students ever (40) and each one of them was awesome! We explored sensory park planning.
I have also begun my tenure on the Board of the Canadian Institute of Planners where we are beginning work on a Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan. We are also seeking ways to reach out to urban planning professional minority populations (BIPOC, invisible disabilities) in new and different ways as we seek to mirror the populations the Board serves, and canadians more broadly. Apparently I stink at retirement, but my learning journey continues with my colleagues from across the country. I can’t tell you pleased I am to work with this group of people, led by our fearless president Lesley Cabott, our vice-president Laura Hartney and Treasurer Gordon Smith. Special shout outs to our ace student representative Eliza Hydesmith from the University of Waterloo, and our fellows representative Beate Bowron. More to come!
I will soon get back to my posts. I appreciate your patience. My vlog is now approximating 350 people! I am gobsmacked by your support, and your sharing my free vlog to your friends and colleagues.
